Oakleigh family pool

Design Brief:

“We need a concrete pool that is safe, can be used all year and does not dominate the yard”. This was the brief from this young family in one of Melbourne’s leafy suburbs. Being busy people it was also important that the pool be very easy to maintain.

Features:

Raised planter box to perimeter of pool and property clad with stone panelling. A Sheer Descent Waterfall has also been installed at the end of the pool.

Summary:

The clients initially thought that their yard would be to small for a pool. By locating it on one side of the backyard the pool could be easily fenced while opening up the rest of the yard for the kids to play in.

Another challenge was the clients were interested in a Remco automatic cover, however there was no room to install the pit at the end of the pool. With some clever design the cover pit was placed below the pool and covered with a neat stainless steel laser cut plate. As well as offering a the clients “peace of mind” the safety cover allows the pool to be heated most of the year and minimises heat loss, chemical use and running costs. The self cleaning system removes any debris that does make it into the pool while the intelligent chlorination system tests the water and adds chemicals when required.

The pool dimensions are 7.0m x 3.5m with a 500mm wide underwater seat running the length of the pool. This provides a great space to relax and enjoy the sun or a place for small children to play on.

The result is an elegant practical design that requires very little maintenance and keeps running costs low.
