A Gold-award winning indoor pool for this redeveloped residence in Toorak
The swimming pool was constructed within a basement in an exclusive new multi storey residence in Toorak. The pool was designed to be suitable for exercise for the customer and to entertain their grandchildren.
Being in the basement meant the pool structure was the first thing to be done on site after the bulk excavation. Extra care was required during the set out phase to ensure the pool was to be square with the walls of the future building. Precision was required at the time of constructing the pool structure, as there was no room for error in relation to location. A corbel rebate was added to the pool beam to support the paving slab.
The customer requirements for the pool were to create a pool for exercise and family fun. They were also interested in minimizing chlorine usage and smells.
A 16m long x 3.6m wide lap pool was designed to fit within the allocated pool area. Square internal corners were installed to reflect the linear nature of the building. The interior was fully tiled with a dark glass mosaic, which blends with the granite paving while providing a stark contrast against the Carrara Marble walls.
The pool is surrounded by stone and glass and provides a link between the gymnasium and vast outdoor gardens. The quality and presentation of the pool is something you would expect to experience at a 5 star hotel or exclusive club.
Low maintenance combines with user experience with the pool water treated primarily by ozone to remove any odours from the poolroom. This system is supported by fully automatic chlorination and pH control to ensure peak bathing loads are catered for. The pool is heated by gas heating.
The project was a success with it being awarded a Gold Award for Best Residential Indoor Pool at the 2015 SPASA Awards.
