Visually stunning when viewed from all angles
Our client was a builder who wanted a pool that made a statement and created a wow factor for their new split level home. The proposed location for the pool was a central courtyard nestled between the upper and lower levels of the house. Our challenge was to integrate the areas while making the small internal courtyard feel expansive.
The pool was designed to sit at the higher level with stone cladding disguising the external pool walls from the lower level. These walls were designed to comply with pool barrier regulations which helped to create the open space sought by our client. Instead of looking through a glass fence from the lower level people are treated to a clear view of the water at eye level.
To enhance this feature a three-sided infinity edge was added to create a perfect vista from all angles. Guests arriving at the glass front door are greeted with a view across the reflective pool with water spilling over the granite cladding into hidden gutter below. As they enter the main living area the granite water wall wraps around the pool extending towards the floating timber steps to the poolside deck.
This design exemplifies indoor/outdoor living with large corner stacker doors opening to the pool and inviting the tranquil sounds of water over the stone into the house. The homeowners wake up to a view from the master bedroom across the water to the outdoor entertaining area below.
Grey tones were chosen to create a peaceful still reflection pool when not being used. We have combined blended midnight glass render, black glass mosaic waterline tiles and flamed granite cladding to achieve this. To ensure the pool remains looking good, the walls were membraned both internally and externally to prevent efflorescence staining, while all joins were caulked to allow for expansion of the individual granite tiles. A marine grade stainless-steel grate conceals the gutter feeding the main balance tank.
The result of this design is a pool that is visually stunning when viewed from all angles and certainly adds value to this beautiful new home.
The pool received two awards at the 2017 SPASA Awards of Excellence; Highly Commended for Best Courtyard Pool and Gold for Best Water Feature.
