More then just a Lap Pool
We were appointed to design and construct a swimming pool in conjunction with a new luxury home development. Our clients wanted a pool that could be used for year-round exercise and feature of the new house.
A 25.0m x 2.4m pool was designed to run along the side of the house, representing a lane in a half Olympic pool. With a significant slope along the length there was a perfect opportunity for a full-length infinity edge. This not only provides a stunning feature from inside the house but also creates a waveless pool, an important feature for lap swimmers. The 27.4m long infinity edge had to be installed perfectly level to achieve constant flow across the edge.
The customers wanted a pool a light and inviting pool, so a light blue ceramic mosaic was chosen to tile the pool throughout.
The infinity edge continues around the end of the pool with a 3.0m high stone water wall providing another feature from the driveway at the front of the house. The wall is clad with three 2.4m x 1.0m granite panels with grooves cut in to create a delicate water pattern on the wall. Each stone weighed around 180 kilograms and required much manpower and effort to install.
The significant slope presented several challenges with pool being constructed mostly above ground level and supported on a series of piers and blockwork from the adjacent basement. Pipework had to be run below the pool structure and penetrate the basement walls into the plantroom below requiring careful planning and waterproofing.
As the customer wanted to use the pool year-round we installed both solar and gas heating along with a Remco Swimroll automatic pool cover system to contain the heat. Due to restrictions with the site and design the cover pit had to be installed below the floor of the pool.
The pool features ‘best in class’ systems and finishes with in floor cleaning, multicoloured lights and fully automated chlorination.
By designing and constructing a pool that is elegant, stunning, low maintenance and able to be used efficiently all year we were able to meet all our clients brief.
