The pool was constructed within a basement of a house under construction on busy Punt Road with access extremely challenging via a steep driveway to the street which made the excavation very difficult. The pool is one of two, constructed side to side and sharing and supporting a common wall, that runs for four levels above.
There are many features of this pool, however the standout is the glass mosaic mural that wraps around the back and side walls of the pool. The figures in the mural cover from water level to almost the ceiling and required immense detail when laying each sheet of the tiles. The pool itself is tiled with a black/copper blend of glass mosaics which blend with the feature tiles and create an intense ambiance in the indoor area.
A Rain Curtain water feature was also cleverly installed within the ceiling above the mural and falls directly into the pool, the curtain provides added texture and dimension to the mural and surrounding area.
Lighting is also a key element in this project for it to be executed so effectively. LED strip lighting was placed around the perimeter of the pool, not only providing an effective illusion amongst the darker colours, but also giving light to the water line which is important in this darker space. Various ceiling circles also containing LED strips add more lighting to the coping and edge. Downlights were also placed above each figure on the mural to accentuate the features.
The pool has a gas heating system and freshwater purification system and is fully automated and operable by smartphone device. The purification system was installed to remove any chlorine smell and aggressive salts from the indoor facility. A dehumidification system was also installed to dry out the air and make the space more comfortable, whilst protecting the building and finishes.
The overall result is a stunning masterpiece.
